Rare Ferrari 250GTO Sells For R235million

Friday, February 10th, 2012

This car (well not this one in particular, but one exactly like it) has just become the second most expensive car ever sold. The car fetched 20 million Great British Pounds, allegedly sold by UK businessmen Jon Hunt to an unnamed South American buyer.

Poker is like Drifting – Seriously

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

This is very much aimed at our loyal German readership, so if you’re not of a Deutsche persuasion you may proceed with your day. That’s right, carry on. Okay then.

Like drifting a German saloon in the wet with the traction control off, the game of poker is very much a skill. You’re not up against the faceless, mighty casino; you’re up against the slightly twitchy people sitting next to you. Even that weird woman with the moustache and the tortoise shell sunglasses.

Which is why we’d like to recommend the German-version of Party Poker. They’re the poker uber-boys, offering the very latest in online poker technology. Invite your friends, play against them and insult them online in new and witty ways. It’s a wonderful way to spend an evening with your laptop, and of course make some extra cash to pay for the finer things in life. Like a better laptop.

Of course we expect you to send over 5% of your winnings. That was a joke.

Cheers.

New Opel Astra OPC Is Hot. 205kW Of Hotness.

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

I always find it quite hilarious that when a new hot hatch is launched it is almost immediately compared to the VW Golf. I don’t know when the Golf became the undisputed king of this segment, but what I do know is the last time I drove a hot Golf, it was without doubt one of the best cars I had ever driven. It was the all-wheel drive Golf R, and it’s going to take some beating.

Porsche’s new 911 and we drive the Peugeot RCZ – OverdriveTV on Expresso

Friday, August 19th, 2011

First, the news. Pictures of Porsche’s new 911 leak onto the internet and absolutely no one is surprised that it looks exactly like the old 911. We drive a stunning coupe: The Peugeot RCZ, which looks like nothing else on the road. Ciro loves it, Gavin not so much, mostly because he can’t really fit in the thing.

OverdriveTV debuts On Actual Television Around South Africa

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

It was a good (and very early) morning for myself and Gavin Williams, who were up at 5am to start a weekly segment on SABC3′s popular Expresso morning show. Live-to-air and anchored by the annoyingly good looking Ewan Strydom, Gavin and I reviewed Volkswagen’s new range of R cars and spoke a bit about LiveTraffic, a new service from Renault and TomTom.

Thanks to Gerard from Alberton who called in to ask a question, I hope we managed to answer well enough!

In the next few weeks we’ll be overhauling this site, so please do come back and have a look.

We’ll be back next week and regularly there after, time and date to be confirmed, but it’s looking like Thursday. If you were awake to catch what must surely be the world’s earliest car programming, thanks for watching, and we hope to hear from you.

Oh, we also met Ben Collins, the former Stig from Top Gear, and got a photo with him. He was at pains to point out he’s really not the Stig anymore. Poor chap.

Check out Expresso here: www.expressoshow.com

Cheers,
Ciro De Siena

Fokofpolisiekar: Audi Give Joburg Police 100 (Very Fast) S3s

Friday, May 6th, 2011

If you happen to spot blue lights in your mirror in Jozi, we don’t recommend trying to run. Quite simply, you’d have to be in something very, very quick to get away.

Audi has recently donated 100 S3s to the Johannesburg Flying Squad, in a bid to fight crime and no doubt generate some great PR. The sight of 100 Audis in police livery is quite a spectacle after all, and besides, here I sit writing about it from Cape Town.

The Audi S3 deals with the standard 0-100km/h sprint in 5.5 seconds and will keep charging all the way to a limited 250km/h. We drove one last year and found the roadholding to be exceptional, thanks to that Quattro system, especially in the wet.

Ogilvy, Audi’s ad agency released the above advert with the somewhat ironic title of “Fokofpolisiekar”. Can I just say, WTF?

Thanks, Between10and5!

New Ford Ranger: Another Giant Bakkie for South Africa

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

We’ve driven the VW Amarok, and we thought that was big. Massive, even. Think three individual seats in the back. We drove the new Nissan Navara, and that felt even bigger on the road for some reason, but felt a little smaller inside. Introducing the latest entry into the penis-measuring contest that is the modern bakkie market, the Ford Ranger.

Update! More Images of the Upside-Down Lamborghini

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

It is most certainly the Murcielago. This new side-angle view of the car on the recovery flatbed truck also shows that it is most likely the convertible. A cool R5.5million for one of those…ouch.
