While our love for Formula One knows few bounds, we can’t help but ignore the pangs of jealousy when we peruse the line up of the Indy Car series over in the States. They’ve had Danica Patrick kicking ass for a while now; that fiery brunette who was rumoured for a turn in F1 two years ago. But step aside, you sharp-tongued wielder of steering wheels, here comes Milka Duno.

Apparently she’s as sweet as Jelly Tots delivery truck, and has masters degrees in Organizational Development, Naval Architecture, Maritime Business, and Marine Biology, with work experience as a naval engineer. Her race debut came at the age of 24, which is practically unheard of across all motorsport; young Hamilton was reportedly still sporting Huggies when he got started. Duno is now 38 and still kicking it hard obviously, she holds the record for the highest placed female driver in the 24 hours of Daytona. Nice.

If you’ve never visited a motor show in South Africa you haven’t missed terribly much. Oh don’t get us wrong, it’s a party if you’re a journalist, but if you’re a paying member of the public, it’s awful. You won’t even see the vehicles amongst the hordes of onlookers, nevermind actually get into one. You will have to endure an endless stream of twats trying desperately to chat-up the motorshow girls and you will never find a bathroom. Ever. But, if you find yourself overseas while a motor show is on the go, be sure to pop in. It is the next level. This lovely Fiat and it’s minder hail from Geneva.

Youtube. Extraordinary. But most of the time you visit you just end up watching a dog on a skateboard or someone injuring themselves in a humourous way. There is hope though, especially if you’re slightly interested in cars. We’ve gone into Youtube’s archives and pulled the five Most Viewed videos of All Time, in the Autos & Vehicles category. Above is number five, click through for the rest.

Number Five (above): “Real Car Crash” -- 14 768 355 views

That first one is both hilarious and extremely disconcerting; it’ll make you chuffed that you live in warmer climes. It’s literally car-skating on ice. These poor sods have absolutely no control over their cars; literally they’re just sliding in whichever direction the gradient of the road is running. Gives me the heeby-jeebies.

Number Four: “Bugatti Veyron vs. Yamaha R1 RACING DOWN MOTERWAY” -- 15 155 807 views

We can’t really understand why this has obtained so many views. But there are a few moments of awesomeness to look out for: right in the beginning, watch for the way the rev-needle shoots up. Bikes are simply ludicrous. At about the 30 second mark, the sheer acceleration of the Veyron is breathtaking, considering the Yamaha R1 is the fastest accelerating bike on earth (we think) and then there’s a really nice little surprise at 1:29.

Ken Block. Popular. Small wonder then that one of his vids is in the top five. There are better clips of this and like he says: “This is a lot less scary then racing; 90 miles an hour sideways through trees is a lot more frightening”.

What an unbelievably shit video. I don’t know what saddens me more: the awful ’90s German rave music soundtrack, the fact that the 53 year old IT consultant who made this probably drives a VW Golf with a Ferrari sticker on the fender, or the fact that there are so many desperately bored fanboys on the interwebs who helped this vid get to 21 million views. I also can’t believe I actually sat through it.

Okay this is decent. A bit of showboating in the M3 leads to a drag race between the Veyron and the Beemer. The M3 gets off to a cracking start, but as soon as the Bugatti drivers stops picking his nose and actually accelerates, the way it shoots past the hapless German is simply astonishing. It’s like it’s propelled by some other-worldly force. The sound of the Veyron at idle is also magic.

The British car industry has existed only in name for about the last three decades. The only glimmer of hope in that time has been a noble effort, ironically, by a chap called Lee Noble, who showed the world that Brits could still build well-sorted cars, even if they did look and feel a bit like an upturned jacuzzi.

You’d think that sort of history would convince would be investors and engineers to burn their money elsewhere, but it’s a bit of a running joke in the UK these days as to who’s going to have a go at building the next great British supercar. A wonderful website called sniffpetrol.com developed a standardised press release for such companies, which you’ll find after the jump. This is laugh-out-loud material.

That’s the 1967 Toyota 2000 GT. Yes, Toyota. And what do they make now? The Yaris, the Verso and the Vasectomy.

These days we’re getting modern, angry designs. Sure, a Ferrari F430 looks menacing, but since when was anyone attracted to aggression? The new Porsche Panamera looks like Kirstie Allie before the gastric bypass; the R8 looks like an overdesigned German toaster and the new BMW Z4 is nice, but ultimately dull and forgettable.

Sure, All of these cars are desirable, attractive vehicles, styled and built well. But sexy? Not a chance.  I understand that design is a reflection of the society that surrounds it; cars from the ’60s are generally much sexier than say, cars from the ’80s. I suppose the scariest thing then is, what does car design say about the 2000s?

These things are now worth an absolute fortune, only 337 were ever made.

This immediately ensured that my face became sunburnt in an erratic patern. It doesn’t even help if you just close the glass and leave the blind open. I’m almost certain that the curvature of the glass concentrates the sunbeam onto your face like a 5 year old frying ants in the backgarden. I’ve asked absolutley no scientists about this and they all concur with me.

And then there’s the noise. Cars are almost undoubtedly the best place to enjoy your music of choice. But not if you have a sunroof. It buffets in the wind like a badly erected tent.

Honestly, I cannot think of a single positive to owning a sunroof. They should only be limited to limousines so that 30 year old singletons can flash passing motorists on their hen nights.

I also know of this practice called ‘fitting an aftermarket sunroof’. I’m sorry, but if you are willing to pay a man to stand your car’s roof and cut a large hole into it using a circular saw you deserve to be shot.

Please, I emplore you, when your dealer asks if you’d like a sunroof, simply laugh in his face and ask him to fit a better sound system instead.
