All in all it was a great day for Frenchy. They must have spilled their Pernod and flicked their Gitanes Filters defiantly at passersby as Jean-Pierre Jabouille (a driver as French as shrugging at Americans) won the French Grand Prix at Dijon-Prenois in a French car (a Renault) on French tyres (Michelin) and powered by a French fuel manufacturer. Unfortunately due to archaic alcohol laws in France, ironically it’s the only race where you aren’t allowed to spray Champagne.

On our minds today: Colin McRae, the legend

If you ever thought that rally drivers were merely men and hey, even you could probably manage it then you simply have to see this clip from the 2006 X-Games. Overdrive is a massive fan of the near-mythical Colin McRae MBE, a really nice Scotsman who was sadly and tragically taken away from us at just 39. He was of course one of the best drivers the world had ever seen.

Towards the end of his career he was roped in to kickstart an American take on rallying for the X-games. As much as we hate American versions of perfectly good European things, this is actually quite a spectacular form of motorsport. Its like the Race of Champions except with dirt and jumps. We’ve got the video, and it’s pretty much one of the best car-related videos we’ve ever watched.
