The Italians do drama properly with the new FF video

Monday, January 24th, 2011

Cue stirring music, dramatic snow-sliding shots from a chopper and a glorious V12 soundtrack. This is a video made during the Ferrari FF’s (many and varied) testing phase.

PPPPOOOOOOWWWWWEEEEERRRRRRRR.

Enjoy.

Excellent news! GQ.co.za goes live!

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

Alrighty, the truth is out: we’ve been working with GQ Magazine SA for some time now, stuffing their editorial stocking full of Overdrive goodies. GQ, South Africa’s leading and most handsome men’s magazine, is simply brilliant in it’s ability to entertain and inform without any fart jokes or unnecessary and unfunny image captions. And we’re working with them. Score.

Taking the values of “Look Sharp, Live Smart” online was inevitable, and the ladies and gents of GQ have done an excellent job with GQ.co.za. In a quote I’ve made up right now, Executive Editor Dylan Muhlenberg said: “I’m absolutely chuffed.” The online edition of GQ will carry all the content you’d expect from Gentleman’s Quarterly, which incidentally hits the shelves monthly. Make it your “morning coffee site”, ie the site you read over morning coffee.

OverdriveTV will be producing car videos and articles for GQ.co.za, because their staff is thankfully too busy to go out and film motorcars. You’ll find our content under Cars & Tech, and under Video.

We’ll post links here to our videos there, and vice versa, so keep checking both sites for new content from myself and co-editor Gavin Williams. To get you started, click on the links below for two of our videos:

Mercedes Benz CL500 – The Massage Chair Episode
Subaru Impreza WRX Prodrive – The Anti-Fat German Episode

Enjoy!

Driven (loudly) – The SL 63 AMG MadMan Edition

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Every now and then a movie comes along which quite simply blows you away. A Dark Knight was that movie for me. It is a masterful arrangement of celluloid; a symphony of action, suspense, emotion and well, explosions really.

Heath Ledger was remarkable as the joker: he personified evil. His polar opposite is obviously our winged hero, in a thankfully less camp batsuit. And representing both sides in one tormented and twisted character: TwoFace. This poor bugger starts of a charming bastion of all that is saintly until someone really pisses him off, creating the most frightening villain imaginable since Anton Chigur in No Country for Old Men.

You have 10 days left to secure your seats for Top Gear Live. Get on it people.

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

You could be one of these lucky audience members!

Last week we revealed that at last year’s show, Jeremy Clarkson found an enormous sex toy in Sasha Martinengo’s luggage. This week’s MPH Show fact is…did you know South Africa was the very first place outside of the UK that the Top Gear lads chose for their road show? Bet you feel a bit more special now, don’t you. Well you have just over a week left to get your tickets.

Head over to www.mphshow.co.za as soon as you can and read up all about it. If you’re too lazy to do that, click ‘read more’ below and you’ll find that we’ve copy/pasted all the details you need to know. There’s also a bonus opportunity to watch me interview Richard Hammond, sporting a hideous goatee (me, not Richard). Even more good news, I’ve never worn a goatee ever again.

This chap is definitely having a worse Monday than you

Monday, January 18th, 2010

It’s a Monday morning in January (as I’m sure you’re well aware) and those blissful holiday memories are still fresh in your mind, making every Monday this month feel especially torturous. But, as people of a sunshine-y disposition are quick to point out, there’s always someone worse off than you.

Take this Bugatti Veyron drive (owner?), for instance. There he is, trotting along with his thousand horsepower, million dollar baby; cresting a pretty lake and no doubt smiling like a windowlicker locked in a greenhouse. And then…splash.

Feeling any better?

Russian forklift driver causes absolute mayhem

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

This was always my biggest fear whilst shopping at Makro:  an overconfident forklift driver and three thousand tonnes of cornflakes, stacked high into the sky. Gives me the heeby-jeebies.
